Watch these 10 lovely short films about Kentish Town
Last weekend saw the inaugural Kentish Town Neighbourhood Forum Short Film Awards take place at the finale of the Camdenist x Cinetronica Poster Sale! event.
Not only was this the realisation (albeit temporary, for now) of a 10-year dream to turn the former, iconic local Polytechnic assembly hall into a cinema – full story here – but it was also a first public screening for the 10 shortlisted films, all based around the theme of London, NW5.
See all the films now in the YouTube player below.
Local historian Gillian Tindall (author of the famous history book all about the area, The Fields Beneath,) Council Leader (with newborn) Georgia Gould, and local documentary director Sheila Hayman (whose latest film Fanny: the other Mendelssohn is
currently winning wide acclaim), were among the guests, with Sheila also presenting the awards.
Roland Denning’s film 13 Years at Mario’s won both the jury and people’s prizes. Runner up for both categories was The Secret World of Kentish Town by Martin Stuart Fowler. The winner of the
16 and under category was The Many Faces of Kentish Town directed by Alan Leonard-
Sparkes, Louis Kaddouri and Finn Campbell.
Use the button on the top right of the YouTube player below to select which short film to watch, and make sure to play a fill screen size, too (box symbol, bottom right).
